We welcomed our second baby boy on January 28, 2015. Here is the story:
I went for my 36 week checkup and was dilated to a 2-3. Same as I was with Brasen at his 36 week checkup. So I knew it was possible it could be a couple more weeks. Boy, was I ready to have this baby! The doctor stressed that the second labor (and those after that) typically goes quicker, and to stop at St. Mary's if I really feel like I'm about to have the baby... a week went by and no baby. Contractions, yes. But none that were painful or that I could time for more than a couple hours.
37 week checkup and still at about a 3. We talked about possibly inducing if I go past my due date, and all the stuff that goes along with your weekly checkups.
The next morning I had planned to get up around 5 to get ready. Brasen has a hard time in the mornings when Kyle and I both are getting ready. He's a little needy for attention sometimes. :) So I was going to get completely ready and then spend the morning with him, getting him ready, etc. to see if that helped his mood any. At 5 I had a contraction, and had a few while I was getting ready. One was intense and I stepped into our closet and just stood for a second. Kyle asked if my leg was hurting... (??? what???) I said no. We went on and I was having them around 5-7 minutes apart. I told Kyle to just be ready and have his phone on him. I wanted to just sit in the car on the drive to babysitter/work to see if relaxing my body made them go away (which is what they had been doing). We got Brasen dressed and in the car and I took him to the babysitters. I dropped him off at 7:30, and had contractions every 5 minutes on the way. I let the babysitter know that we were headed to the clinic (The dr said to come in if they are 5-7 min to check for dilation). I called Kyle and had him meet me in Dardanelle.
We pulled off of the exit at 8:30, so I called the clinic. Still 5 minutes apart but not really painful. So I wasn't convinced yet it was the real deal. They told me to go on over to L&D, that Dr. Wood was already there doing rounds. Kyle parked at one of the farthest parking spots (in his defense, I did tell him I could walk in). I walked in and got checked in. They were a little slow getting me hooked up and into triage. She must have put the fetal monitor on a little high because the nurse came in and said, "ok, are you having any contractions still? Because they aren't reading." I said, "yes ma'am...still 5 minutes apart." She decided to go ahead and see if I was dilated. Her face...and she said, "Oh, honey you're in labor...you're almost a 6!" WooHoo!! That got the ball rolling on their end. All of a sudden they wheeled me to a room, hooked up the IV, and tried their best to get my intake paperwork done. The nurse was a little nervous they weren't going to get me ready in time to deliver. I, on the other hand, was wondering why she was freaking out. I had to use the bathroom...and she said NO! You'll have the baby in there. I said, "I don't think so...I just need to pee." I finally convinced her and made it back to the bed. At which point I was then an 8. 3 nurses came in to hook up an epidural and on the last one, my nurse said, "SHE DOESN'T WANT ONE!" Apparently they aren't as swift when they are needed??!
I had some intense contractions but nothing I couldn't breathe through. My water broke, and so did the sweat. I was cold up until this point and heat completely covered me from head to toe. I think I had about 2 or 3 hard contractions after that and said, "ok he's coming...now" I pushed twice, and baby Brooks was here at 10:33 a.m. To me, he looked perfect. They said he had some facial bruising from the quick delivery and I didn't even notice until I looked at pictures afterwards. Now, the bruising is all gone and he's got a perfect complexion. Our precious second baby is here and is perfect!
